Governor RSE Training

1 November 2019

Governors and trustees have an important role to play in supporting schools to implement the statutory requirements for Relationships Education, RSE and Health Education (RSHE). To fulfil this governance role and support senior leadership it's vital to be well informed about the current legislation, confident about the way that high quality RSE helps the school achieve it's vision for children and young people and clear about the responsibilities of governors and trustees.

Our 'twilight' two-hour training session for governors and trustees ensures clarity about roles and confidence about what constitutes high quality Relationships and Sex Education. The objectives of the training are to:

–Clarify the facts about statutory Relationships Education, RSE and Health Education

- Identify the key outcomes of RSE for pupils and where these connect with the school values and ethos

–Recognise features of high quality, inclusive Relationships and Sex Education (RSE), underpinned by research evidence

- Understand the requirement for parental consultation, and the benefits of ongoing parental communication, and consider possible methods

–Be confident about the responsibilities of Governors in relation to statutory RSHE

–Know about some tools that can support school senior leaders to deliver high quality RSE

This training is interactive, with opportunity to address delegates questions from their school context. The slide presentation and supporting 'aide memoire' with a handy set of questions for governors and trustees are provided to all delegates attending the training.
