Jane Lees OBE

Jane Lees is a Life Member of the Sex Education Forum and in 2019 was awarded the OBE in recognition of her 50 years in health and sex education. She has consistently advocated for comprehensive, relevant Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) as an entitlement for all children and young people and worked hard to professionalise the teaching of RSE.

With a Masters Degree in Health Education from King’s College, London, Jane combined teaching biology with scrutinising and developing resources for schools. She was a member of the I.L.E.A. team which pioneered successful whole-school approaches to Health Education & Personal Development and an effective professional development programme for teachers. As well as devising programmes for local authorities, Jane was a long-term member of the Family Planning Association’s team of trainers.

Jane was Chair of The National Association of PSHE advisers, inspectors, and consultants and led the wide-ranging,  National PSHE Advisory Group which agreed the foundation of the national framework for PSHE.

Jane chaired the Sex Education Forum from 2008 to 2018. Her focus now is on its effective implementation. 

Jane became a Trustee of the Sex Education Forum in April 2021.
